BSH FORUM RULES
Here at the BSH Forum, we really have just one Golden Rule: Don’t be a d*ck! The rest, as they say, is commentary.
We are intensely proud that our Brotherhood – watch enthusiasts from all over the world who found each other by chance – has thrived since 2009 with just that single rule. We have survived everything the world has thrown at us because we are committed to a respectful exchange of views, whatever the subject. As we like to say, and as you will see if you spend some time with us, we came for the watches but stay for the wide-ranging, free-flowing conversation.
Now, any visitor to any watch site can tell you that ideals and practices do not always align; words are misunderstood, trolls happen, hard words sometimes get exchanged, feelings occasionally get hurt.
We know that, and that’s why we’re providing this additional guidance. Truly, we wish we didn’t have to.
Don’t be a d*ck. Yeah, we covered that already, but it’s worth repeating, don’t you think?
Keep your language (and jokes) clean. We’re not going to wash your mouth out with soap, but be mindful that we have people here from all over the world and all walks of life. Literally, from sailors to men of different cloth. Keep the cussin’ to a minimum and take special note:
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion and judgment, to delete and/or edit any messages that violate any of the following guidelines: 1. Explicit reference to illegal or unlawful acts; 2. Graphic sexual descriptions; 3. Personal Attacks or Doxing; 4. Spam posting; and last but definitely not least, 5. Threatening, harassing, or discriminatory language, whether in posts or PMs.
We understand that misunderstandings occur among an international group and that even well-intended jokes sometimes fall flat. We ask all to please keep Rule 1 in mind and try to give folks the benefit of the doubt.
Still, there’s nothing more d*ckish than harassing, threatening, or discriminatory language and we’re not having it. If you cross this line, in addition to removal of your post, you can expect to answer for it directly, including through a ban.
Trolls suck. Please, we’re all here to have a good time. If you’re feeling p!ssy, take a time out before we give you one.
Private Messages (PMs) are … errr … private. Keep ‘em that way.
*Note: If you receive a harassing or threatening PM, please advise the admin team so we can take appropriate steps.
Keep sales posts in the Market. One “RCC” post (a sales post in our lingo) is acceptable to alert the whole group to check the Market. *Please, limit your RCC post to a single pic. Nobody wants to see pics of your beloved watch from every angle in the main thread, only to see it listed for sale in the Market a minute later. You can post all the pics you want in the Market.
If you want to run a raffle, contest, or anything similar, kindly run it by one of the forum administrators first. As you will see, there’s always some sort of group buy happening, about to happen, or just completing. We don’t want to step on each other’s toes.
Homage=yes… Replica=no! This ain’t the Brotherhood of Submariner Replicas. We’re not judging and we’re not the IP police, but we’re not having it here. More info why in this PSA post.
No guns or weapons. Again, no disrespect. Many of our brothers are current or ex-military and many enjoy shooting sports. Still, we have decided to leave guns/weapons to other sites dedicated to them.
*Note: EDC is acceptable. While some of us are not sure why we need to see what you’re packing in your pants, if you need to post a pic of your “everyday carry,” including small pocket and folding knives, go for it. But hey, if your everyday carry is a 9mm and handcuffs or the like, please leave it at the door. You get the idea.
Keep the NSFW content off the site. Period. Many of us don’t want to see it, and many others scroll the site at home with their spouses or kids, in public places, at work, and on non-private devices.
No Shilling Without Permission. Own your own brand? Wanna peddle your wares here? Contact a site administrator. We’ll be happy to discuss options for sponsorship and/or advertisements. We do have a site to run, and we do have costs! You know what’s not cool? Profiting off someone else’s labor, that’s what’s not cool.
The Logos and the Brotherhood of Submariner Homages, BSH, BSHT. The two BSH logos you will see here, the traditional anchor and a more modern looking one, are the property of the brothers who created them. They have granted site administrators the authority to approve their use for any private and/or commercial purpose. What does that mean? Use of our logos and/or our name for watch runs or other merch requires express written permission from site administrators, they are not “open source.” This falls under the purview of Rule #1. Also… it’s theft.
We reserve the right to add to, subtract from, or modify these rules at any time, at our sole discretion, without notice.
Your use of this forum is a privilege, not a right. If you prove unable to follow our rules, we reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to limit and/or block your access. Happily, we’ve never had to run anybody out of town, although the posse has gathered from time to time. Please, don’t be the one to test our resolve.
We believe strongly in self-policing our forum and have a long history of nipping this sort of thing in the bud by ourselves. Don’t be surprised if a brother replies to one of your posts – either in the thread or via PM – to remind you of Rule 1. Still, be respectful of each other. If you aren’t comfortable doing that, or think you won’t be able to be respectful when doing it, do not hesitate to report it to the admin team. We’ll help make it right.
Please, don’t make us be d*cks. Site administrators want to jabber about watches, not to parent adults. Treat each other respectfully, as you expect to be treated. Still, conflicts occur and we will step in if asked to make sure everyone has a positive experience. Remember, we’re here in support of a hobby. If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right!
And for those of you wanting to buy or sell here, please read the Marketplace Rules that follow.
-The Brotherhood Admin Team
Got something to sell? Want to buy a brother’s treasured BSH OG dial?
This is our marketplace.
Before you participate in our sales section, you must first read and agree to our Terms of Service - you just read them above, right?
No matter where you are within this site, you agree to abide by the above principles including our Golden Rule: Don’t be a d*ck!
To make a sales post you must be a registered user for at least 20 days, have read a minimum of 300 posts, and replied to at least 5 topics. Speed posting to obtain access to The Market will result in access being revoked.
All sales posts must include the following:
- A complete description of the watch (or other item) for sale
- Clear photographs of the watch. Ratings are difficult to quantify and, as such, pictures are the best evidence of condition. We expect sellers to disclose known defects to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings and conflict.
- Posts must include a “tag” with your username and date (handwritten on paper and placed under or next to the watch)
- Asking Price
- Shipping method, fees, and any additional arrangements or conditions including where you will ship to
- Method of payment (do NOT request payment via “Friends & Family” to avoid legitimate fees)
- You MUST update the post indicating the watch has sold, if applicable
- Do NOT remove or edit the Asking Price in the original post or any adjustments in price in subsequent replies
- “Bumps” and/or relists are limited to once every 12 hours
- NO sales of fake or replica watches
- Once the transaction is complete, please post in the Sales Feedback & Reputation forum
Caveat emptor and “Buy the Seller”. BSH.zone does not manage, endorse or protect users from buying or selling within The Market. Use your best judgement before you purchase from or sell to anyone, as you would in any sales transaction. All transactions are undertaken at your own risk.
On Buying and Selling BSH Logo’d Items
Feelings run strong on the trading in BSH logo’d items. In general, profiteering on these is frowned on, and preference is to be given to passing on to another brother before offering to the general public. You are encouraged to read more on brother’s thoughts on the topic if you intend to sell these items.
The permitted use of the BSH Anchor and similar logos, our name including those associated with The Zone, are addressed in our Guidelines for Usage of Intellectual Property for Individual and Group Projects. If you would like to use the logo for a personal or group project, please read the document and then reach out to one of the Guardians for permission.
